Bear

Name: Bear
Age: 5
Sex: Male
Weight: 81
Breed: Rottweiler
Reproductive: Neutered
Vaccinations: Fully Vaccinated
Microchipped: Yes
My Story:
While feeding in the orchards, one of our volunteers came across a heartbreaking sight. Bear was lying alone on the ground, unable to move, with a rope wrapped around his body. The extent of his injuries was devastating, and the outlook was grim. Knowing he desperately needed help, we contacted Animal Control so he could be taken somewhere safe and receive emergency care.
At the shelter, Bear began to show everyone something remarkable—his will to live. Despite everything he had endured, he never gave up. Seeing that fighting spirit, Bakersfield Strays knew we couldn’t let his story end there. We pulled Bear from the shelter and gave him the chance he so desperately deserved.
Bear was transferred to our local veterinary hospital, where he received additional medical care. During his examination, veterinarians discovered fragments of bullets still lodged in his body. The fragments could not be safely removed, serving as a heartbreaking reminder of the cruelty he had survived.
Bear’s journey is one of unimaginable suffering, but it is also one of resilience, hope, and the power of compassion. Because people chose to care, Bear was given the opportunity to fight for a life he had nearly lost.
About Me:
After everything Bear has been through, his heart is still full of love. This big teddy bear loves people, gets along with other dogs, and continues to show everyone that kindness can survive even the hardest moments.
Bear has fought so hard for his second chance, and now he is searching for the one thing he has always deserved — a loving furever family.
He doesn’t need sympathy… he needs a home. A place where he can feel safe, be loved, and finally know what it means to belong. 🐾
Could you be the family Bear has been waiting for? ❤️

Rescue Partners
One of the most critical needs for our team are partners with the ability to help house Bakersfield Strays dogs upon being picked up. We have limited space and ability to hold them for long periods of time and our expertise is more generally suited for partnerships with larger private adoption agencies that can become a liaison between us and the forever homes of the dogs. We do have a process for becoming a partner that ensures they are going to remain happy and healthy in loving homes. If you are interested in helping us overcome this crisis and you have the ability to facilitate the adoption process n our behalf, please apply to become one of our valued partners. You can find the steps to doing so at the link below.
