Bakersfield Strays Dog Rescue Success Stories
Dog rescue success stories. The profiles below feature dogs that have been adopted by a loving family or placed with an animal rescue partner. If a dog is with a rescue partner, they may still need a permanent home. If you’re interested in adopting one of these dogs, we’re happy to provide more information on a specific dog or connect you with our adoption partner. If you need some additional information on how to care for your rescue dog you can check out some of our blogs about nurturing their health.
NOVA
Name: NOVA
Age: 8
Sex: Female
Weight: 80
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Reproductive: Not Fixed
Vaccinations: Needs Shots
Microchipped: No
My Story:
Nova, also known as Momma, was discovered living in deplorable conditions on a farmer’s land during our feeding rounte. For two years, we provided her with food and affection, despite her unkempt appearance, severe skin issues, and overgrown nails that made her look utterly miserable. In April 2025, during one of our visits, we were taken aback to find her with two puppies. We immediately implored the owner to let us rescue her. After several days of persistent requests, we successfully organized a team to save and transport her within 24 hours.
About Me:
Nova and her kittens are flourishing after spending a few weeks in a temporary foster home. Her little ones have grown and are now placed with a foster family of their own. Meanwhile, Nova has found a long-term medical foster, where she is finally receiving the tender loving care and medical attention she deserves.
My Status: Adopted

Rescue Partners
One of the most critical needs for our team are partners with the ability to help house Bakersfield Strays dogs upon being picked up. We have limited space and ability to hold them for long periods of time and our expertise is more generally suited for partnerships with larger private adoption agencies that can become a liaison between us and the forever homes of the dogs. We do have a process for becoming a partner that ensures they are going to remain happy and healthy in loving homes. If you are interested in helping us overcome this crisis and you have the ability to facilitate the adoption process n our behalf, please apply to become one of our valued partners. You can find the steps to doing so at the link below.
